We too often live in a fog due to life’s competing concerns for our awareness, consideration, and time. It is possible, even in the midst of these competing concerns, to pay gentle attention to our ways of being in the world. Developing imaginative powers, mental focus, relaxed/nourished bodies, sensory awareness, emotional release, and earthly and cosmic connectedness increases possibilites for joy and well-being. Play is important. Many adults know how to distract or entertain themselves, but they have forgotten the gift of abandonment to play. And, of course I'm not talking about irresponisble activity. Understanding our energetic selves is another key to our being able to conjur calm, perhaps joy, in the most unlikely moments. Barbara Barg, poet/drummer/performer/energy worker, has based these workshops on her life learning and experiences. She was born into a well-to-do family in a small town in Eastern Arkansas and moved to New York City after college where she became a several-times-recognized-in-a-coffee-shop poet/musician on the downtown poetry/music scene. When she was 40, her father went bankrupt just as she was coming out of a two-decade long drug fog. She had no money, no apartment, thin means of livelihood, and a broken body/mind/heart/spirit. Thus began her life-long art project: to discover/invent a joyful life and connection to her species and the cosmos. In that time, she became co-founder of a legandary NYC band, wrote a book that is distributed by MIT Press, and became an energy coach/worker. She currently lives in Denver, CO, where she continues writing, develops her energy practice, and is marvelously pleased to play with the band Coyote Poets of the Universe. Barg has undertaken numerous studies in many aspects of energy work, vocalizing (including a cross-species vocal workshop), and rhythm. She's logged hundreds of hours under the dazzling tutelage of the reknowned chi kung energy healer and teacher Damaris Jarboux of The Center Place in Boulder, CO. Barg also loves adventures in shamanic, African drumming, and energy player worlds and has experienced many wondrous gifts from the beautiful souls who sing in those keys. The Voluntary Evolution Workshops are generously sprinkled with Barg's personal pixie dust: laughter, rhythm, song, wonder, surprise, wit. We each have our personal pixie dust . . . come discover yours. |
